Indian Premier League (IPL)- Catch Up

Heard about IPL but not sure what it is or whats gone on so far. Here is a quick recap.

IPL is a Twenty20 competition created by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is sanctioned by the ICC. The competition will begin in April 2008, last for 44 days and have 59 matches. It is an annual competition. The official website of IPL is http://www.indianpremierleague.com/ although the site has little information on it so far.

Some of the worlds best players will take part. Superstars such as Sachin Tendulkar, Adam Gilchrist, Ricky Ponting & Murali. Basically, its the best of the best of world cricket (with the exception of the English players who were not available to play IPL).

There are 8 teams: Bangalore Royal Challengers, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi DareDevils, IPL Hyderbad, IPL Jaipur, IPL Kolkata, IPL Mohali, IPL Mumabi. As you have probably heard by now, IPL used a unique auction system to allow each of the teams to bid for their players. This occured on the 20 February 2008. IPL Kolkata spent the most on players US$6,022,500, followed by Chennai US$5,929,000. The team that spent the least was IPL Jaipur with only US$2,925,000.

The best source for basic information about team lists (in my opinion) is trusty wikipedia.

So thats where things are right now with IPL. Your up to date with the basic information.
